As many of you remember, we had the honor and privilege of participating in the POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony held at the Leestown Road Campus of the Lexington VA Medical Center in 2009.  As you know, we had an overwhelming response last year.  Asked to provide desserts, we had an abundance of food and our veterans and their families were amazed at the outpouring of support from our community.

We have been asked to provide desserts again this year and assist with serving lunch to these courageous veterans and their family members. The ceremony will take place on Friday, September 17, 2010, at the VA Medical Center located at 2250 Leestown Road, Lexington, Kentucky.

We are looking for volunteers to help during the event, as well as volunteers who would be willing to provide a dessert.

EVENT VOLUNTEERS:

The ceremony begins at 10:30.  We have been asked to arrive by 9:30 am.  Your help will be needed until approximately 1:00 pm.   Please send an email to Ginny at volunteer@militarymissionsonline.com.  Include your contact information such as cell phone number so we can contact you on the day of the event if there is a need to do so.

If you are also planning to bring a dessert item with you on the day of the event, please indicate this information in your email when you sign up for the event.

DESSERT VOLUNTEERS: 

If you can not attend the event, but would like to help by donating a dessert item, please  send an email to Ginny at volunteer@militarymissionsonline.com.  Let us know which dessert you are planning to donate.  

Desserts can be dropped off at our office at Palomar Centre on Thursday, September 16, between Noon and 3:00 PM or dropped of directly at the VA Medical Center’s Leestown Road Campus on the morning of the event anytime after 9:00 am.

If those options are not convenient for your schedule, we can make other arrangements.  When you send your email with intent to provide a dessert, please indicate that you will need to make other arrangements to get your dessert to us. We will get back to you prior to the event to make arrangements.

SUGGESTIONS:

*Please try to donate items in disposable containers.  

*Include a serving utensil for your dessert.

*If containers are not disposable, please mark items with your name.

*Slice items, such as cakes, prior to drop off.  

*This event is outside. Please do not bring items which need to remain refrigerated prior to being served.

We will send a reminder email out approximately one week prior to the event and ask you to confirm your attendance and/or your willingness to donate a dessert item for this event.

Monthly Care Package Assembly

Monthly care package assemblies are being interrupted until January 2011.

We are relocating our office in September, therefore, we are mailing out everything on our shelves just prior to moving to the new location.  In October we will start our efforts for OPERATION S.E.N.D. CHRISTMAS.  Instead of the monthly assembly, we will have an increase in office hours and an increase in a need for volunteers.  Be on the lookout for upcoming announcements as to our new address, office hours, and volunteer shifts.  We will have information on our website soon.

(There will not be a scheduled monthly assembly during the months of September, October, November, and December as we will be relocating our office and working on Operation SEND Christmas.  Monthly assemblies will be incorporated into the SEND Christmas schedule when it is announced.

Military Missions hosts BINGO once a month for our hospitalized veterans. This is a great way to give back to our veterans and have fun at the same time. We always need volunteers to help us with this event.  Volunteers are needed the first Tuesday evening of each month from approximately 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Ginny at volunteer@militarymissionsonline.com.
